Playoff update: Undefeated runs end for football and field hockey, cross country runner heads to state

Nov 13, 2023

After whirlwind regular seasons that made Dartmouth field hockey and football look unstoppable, both teams were taken down before reaching the final four of the state tournament.

On Thursday, Nov. 9, Dartmouth football fell to 3-seed Milton High School 28-7, ending what looked like an undeniable run toward the state championship.

In its Saturday, Nov. 11 game, Dartmouth field hockey let up more than one goal for the first time this season, losing 4-2 against Somerset-Berkley High School in the quarter finals.

In the Nov. 11 state qualifier race for Dartmouth cross country, the team as a whole placed 10th in the men’s division for the 5,000 meter race. A few Dartmouth student athletes finished in strong positions, including Elaijah Monteiro in 27th with a time of 17:05.7, Jared Mendonca in 37th with a time of 17:24.4, and Luke Bloom-Glover in 47th with a time of 17:37.3 on the day.

High finishers for the girls division include Amya Moura in 67th with a time of 22:43.4 and Lauren Kelly in 70th with a time of 22:50.5.

Monteiro is the only runner to move onto the state championship, the same as last year.
