Two students from Dartmouth High School earned honorable mentions from this year’s competitive Scholastic Art Awards, presented by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers.

Senior Teagan Witzig was honored for her portfolio of six photographs, and Junior Jadah Kumor was honored for a cuff bracelet called “Flowering Branch” that she made in a Jewelry and Metals class. The bracelet was made from copper and sterling silver.

In her statement, Witzig said her portfolio “is inspired by taking the world’s beauty and exposing its eeriness and darkness.” In her personal statement, she also remarked on the power of candid photos to “tell the truth.”

The Alliance is a nonprofit organization that tries to give students opportunities for recognition, exhibition, publication, and scholarships. In 2023, students across the nation and Canada submitted over 300,000 original works in 28 different categories of art and writing.
