In October, the state housed a number of migrant families in Town at both the Baymont by Wyndham in North Dartmouth and the Best Western on Route 6. Now, the state will relocate families at the Baymont by Wyndham to another facility out of town on Dec. 20, according to Town Administrator Shawn MacInnes. 

In November, a spokesperson for the town said the facilities housed “about 40 families” across the two facilities. In an email to Dartmouth Week, MacInnes said “around 20 families” are specifically at the Baymont by Wyndham. 

It’s unclear whether students enrolled at Dartmouth Public Schools will remain in the district. Superintendent June Saba-Maguire said students’ enrollment status will depend on where families are relocated to, which the state has not yet made clear. If within a feasible distance from Dartmouth, both the school district of residence and Dartmouth Public Schools will need to arrange transportation for students, as required by the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.  

MacInnes said the state did not inform the town about any details about the families’ departure, including the new location or future student status.
