Letter to the Editor: Stealing signs now, our democracy tomorrow
On the 4th of July, we celebrated the 250th anniversary of the day our ancestors said no to the dictatorship of an English king. If this purpose, to have the people rule itself, is what Americans then and now should hold together, why are signs bearing the reading “Democracy NOT Dictatorship” being stolen for the second time from private property on Cromesett Road?
The only explanation is that individuals, apparently in line with the MAGA movement, don’t like it when people support the goals of our forefathers, which should be ours, too. They prefer a dictatorship to the rule by “We the people.” To advance their anti-American agenda, they do not hesitate to steal. Now it is signs; tomorrow it will be our democracy.
It is ironic that these thieves are probably among those who constantly and mendaciously denounce all immigrants as criminals, but, like the insurrectionists of January 6, 2021, apparently think that they are allowed to commit criminal acts. If they were not citizens, they could be deported for their crimes.
These people are not for an open society where citizens freely debate. They don’t want to debate at all; they want to force their authoritarian views upon us by suppressing our freedoms. All real patriots should stand up against them!
